Dr. Kathleen Svala, MD
I am an Ohio native and moved to Cleveland in 2008 for psychiatry residency. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester, where I majored in biology and psychology. I received my medical degree from the University of Toledo College of Medicine. In 2012, I completed psychiatry residency training at University Hospitals of Cleveland/Case Medical Center. During my fourth year of residency, I had the honor to serve as chief resident. I completed fellowship training programs in both Addiction Psychiatry and Community Psychiatry at University Hospitals of Cleveland/Case Medical Center.
I have experience working in multiple treatment settings, including inpatient, consultation liaison, addiction psychiatry partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs. I have experience in drug and alcohol detoxification and providing MAT for opioid use disorders. I also have experience providing transcranial magnetic stimulation for treatment resistant depression. I am Board Certified in both Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
I believe the best medical care is evidence-based, collaborative, and patient-centered. I currently work with adults (18+) and specialize in working with depressive disorders, anxiety and panic disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, women’s mental health, and substance-related and addictive disorders.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, cooking, exercising, and watching sports.
